Sixth June

  Sixth June is the electro pop duo of Lidija Andonov and Laslo Antal. The group formed during 2008 in  Belgrade and are currently based in Berlin. Their first official release “everytime” came out in March 2010 for the German label Genetic Music/No Emb Blanc. Since then, the band has been playing gigs in Germany, Belgium, Croatia, Serbia. The duo have also performed at B.I.M. fest in Antwerp, and Exit festival Novi Sad.

You can let your heart listen their deep influence for everything that has a synthesizer sound and found its origin in the Eighties; the duo represents perfectly the two sides of the same coin, in fact while Laslo is producing obscure but expressive, powerful and danceable textures, on the back side the voice of Lidija is living the shape to a wobbling atmosphere you won’t escape from.

Olga Kouklaki

   
  Olga was born in Athens (Greece) . She starts playing the piano at the age of 8 and never quits music since: While doing her classical music studies, curiosity brings her into the electronic scene .She starts djing to greek bars and clubs and learns music production. Sept 2001 she moves to Paris djing, taking courses in interior design and contemporary music .

  In January 2003 she releases her first track in the UK (sumsonic.rec.uk) called `Don`t look at me` by the name of ODD and starts cooperating with the french label Fcommunication. She participates at the live project of Jay Alanki (aka Reminiscent Drive) and starts giving concerts as a programmer-keybord player.

   In Dec 2003 she records vocals for Fred`s Avril track `tv dinner` (album `Members Only`- Label Fcom) and in April 2004 she records vocals for Poni Hoax`s track `Budapest`(label Tigersushi). Budapest is released in December 2005, enters compilations as Fabric in the UK, ‘Les Inrocks’ mag ‘s monthly compilation in France and receives great reviews all over Europe.

   She also participates at the live project of Bang Bang (Yellow prod.) and Nouvelle Vague (Peacefrog) as a programmer-keybord player. Then, she works on her own project produced by Marc Collin (The Perfect Kiss / PIAS) . Her EP ‘Getalife’ with Blackstrobe’s remix is now in stores.

Crystal Castles – Suffocation

   Crystal Castles have released the video for "Suffocation" off their 2010 self-titled album, in collaboration with Vs Magazine. 

   They're calling it a "fashion video," and it features Alice Glass pouting and moping around an abandoned mansion wearing all kinds of fancy wardrobe.

  They are known for their melancholic lo-fi sound and their explosive live shows. 
  Expect third album from Crystal Castles this summer, until then take a look a new video!

Adventure - Lesser Known (2011)

   Adventure is yet another contemporary act infatuated with the epic sound of 80s electronica. The Baltimore based musician behind Lesser Known, Benny Boeldt, uses a palette of sounds and beats to recreate and expand upon the indulgent atmospherics that groups like OMD and Visage came up with the first time round.

   The opening track, 'Song 1', sounds like an instrumental remix of New Order's 'Bizarre Love Triangle', and this is soon followed by 'Smoke and Mirrors' and "Fools Paradise".  Boeldt creates a lush sound that is melodramatic, urban, melancholic and rapturous; In short, Boeldt is a musician, a technician and a post-modern romantic.

   At its best, Lesser Known crescendos to create a big sound using melodic hooks, electronic strings, samples and simple vocals.

   For some people this kind of music will sound derivative and nostalgic, but it's not really as simple as that. Although the template may be very similar to 80s electronica, the schematic has changed and Lesser Known does sound like the next generation of synth-pop.

The Opiates - Anatomy of a Plastic Girl

   The Opiates is a collaboration project between Billie Ray Martin and Robert Solheim that began 3 years ago when they performed songs together (including Anatomy of a Plastic Girl) at the Rough Trade record shop.
   They are set to release their debut album, Hollywood Under the Knife, next month. Anatomy of a Plastic Girl is the second single and explores the devastating consequences of a hopeful Hollywood starlet who is scarred emotionally and physically by a botched facelift. 
   The Opiates are radical because they do not shy away from the rare match of songwriting and cutting-edge beats and bleeps.
  The Opiates will boldly go where the best of electronic duo crossover albums have gone before and will appeal as much to the charts as to the underground, to film and television as much as radio and beyond.
  Their debut album "Hollywood Under The Knife" will be released on Disco Activisto Records on 21st October 2011.

Flying Turns - As Good As

   French Cold New wave band Flying Turns from Paris, with beautiful deep dark voice and energetic post punk guitar riffs made such a great videos that make me excited to find a real high-quality band that reminds a lot to Joy Division, the first album of Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Devo and so on..

   One of the band members is Gesaffelstein, a french producer of techno/electro music.

  Their first single was called as good as, listen to this promising and talented trio. Enjoy!!

Emmon - Nomme

  
   Emmon is the solo project of Emma Nylén. She is also one of the member of the Swedish pop-band Paris. The Emmon-project was started in 2001 as an experimental music vs. art project under her art studies at Konstfack University Collage of fine Art in Stockholm. Emmon..s computer based music lays on the border between pop, synth, electro and disco music. Its based on her vocal resources with a lot of attitude and melodic pop songs. She also working as a DJ and doing remixes for other bands and artists. For example: The Knife, Melody Club, Homy, Soviac, Postplay. 

   In the very beginning, her music was quite minimal and rather monotonous electronica, actually a bit electro-clash inspired. But over the years, her music has matured into an energetic and melodic style of electropop, often very danceable and catchy. The music is both cold and warm, hard and soft, all at the same time. It's urban, European, modern, authentic, stylish and elegantly sexy, just like Emma herself.

  In 7 February 2007, Emmon released her debut album The Art and the Evil on Wonderland Records. It was written, produced, mixed and engineered by Emma Nylén. The tracks “Rock D’Amour” and “Time Can Only Make Things Better” were co-written and co-produced by Jon Axelsson. Three singles supported the album: "Wake Up Time” (issued in 2006), “Rock D'Amour” and “Down Below”.

   The sophomore album, Closet Wanderings, was issued in 19 February 2009, on Wonderland Records. Like her debut album, it was written, produced, mixed and engineered by Emma Nylén. The songs “Torturous Pleasure” and “Lips on Fire” were co-written and co-produced by Jon Axelsson. Two singles supported the album: “Secrets & Lies” and “Lips on Fire”.

 In June 2011, Emmon issued the third album Nomme on Wonderland Records. The album was preceded by two singles: “Distance” and “Ghost Dance”.

    Lovers of Miss Kittin will surely be pleased with this record. I dare to state the melodies on this record are better, more refined and Emma has a wider vocal range. Satisfying bass sounds in “Baseepressen”, sparkling melodies in “Distance”, eighties flavours in “Ghost Dance”, all in all enough elements for dance floor purposes.

   On top this is a varying album with enough subtlety for various listening sessions. 

  “Nomme” may need some time to grow, but it is definately her best work to date. A very good Electropop journey is guaranteed.

Son Lux - Weapon VII

   Son Lux (b. Ryan Lott), is a USA composer / musician / remixer. 

  Son Lux is 32-year-old producer-composer, a man classically trained, but rewired by his own design.

A frequent collaborator and consummate “man behind the curtain,” with Son Lux, the New York-based auteur takes center stage. Somewhere between the concert hall and the dingy hip-hop club, you’ll find his haunting liquid soundscapes, born of beatwise means, rich in their orchestral warmth, always hinting at some divine unreachable height.

    In 2009, Lott released his critically lauded debut, At War with Walls and Mazes, and followed it with a series of performances that broke the album down into a mercurial mass to be reassembled at will — sometimes by Lott alone (on computer and/or piano), sometimes with help. Similarly,
Son Lux continued to evolve as Lott’s extracurriculars pushed him into new realms.

  He’s worked extensively with acclaimed choreographers, including Stephen Petronio, scoring his large-scale
dance works for Ballet de Lorraine and National Dance Company Wales. He also orchestrated
the brass and woodwinds for These New Puritans’ NME-touted Hidden LP, arranged the score to
a to-be-released French film, and produced a beat for left-field rapper Beans’ 2011 Anticon.

  His second album, We Are Rising, was made in February of 2011. 

  "Weapons VII" is a cut from Son Lux's Weapons EP, an amorphous structure wherein a given track can sound different every time you hear it.

  The four-and-a-half-minute production features a beautiful but sometimes unnerving mix of artfully stylized images, including half-naked models and Lott himself completely covered in a white powder.

  "In a sense, these songs are not songs, but meditations," Lott says. "I created as many as five different versions of each song (on At War With Walls and Mazes) before settling on 'the one.' But really, there is not just one. I'm free from the confines of structure, and the 'song' is, in its purest form, only simple melody, and the possibilities for presenting that melody are infinite."

   The "Weapons VII" video was produced by Son Lux and directed by Landis Smithers.

Chew Lips - Unicorn

   Chew Lips are an East London based dance-pop trio consist of singer Tigs, and multi-instrumentalists Will Sanderson and James Watkins^.

    The group was formed in early 2008 and wrote ten songs at their first rehearsal, and played their first show that spring at a friend’s house. After a few more gigs, the group found a champion in BBC DJ Steve Lamacq, who asked Chew Lips  to perform a session on his show and invited them to play the BBC Introducing Stage at the Electric Proms Festival that fall. After a MySpace exchange with the founder of the French label Kitsune, the band released their debut single, "Solo," on the imprint early in 2009; the song showcased Chew Lips'  distinctive mix of brassy female vocals and Casiotone beats and melodies. The single "Salt Air," which featured a video directed by Man vs. Magnet, followed that summer. Their debut album, Unicorn, appeared in January 2010, as did the Play Together EP.

   CHEW LiPS have gone on to create an astonishing, visceral debut that thrills from start to finish, each song different from the last but with the hallmarks of the trio stamped over everything, the tracks intrinsically connected and detached at the same time, grand and intimate at once. Opener ‘Eight’ creeps into life slowly, its glacial soundscapes giving way to a robotic surge of glitches and bleeps, ‘Play Together’ sees shrill synths pirouetting round Tigs’ deviant vocals, whilst ‘Slick’ is space-age soul, building to its climactic outro in a haze of cascading, kaleidoscopic harmonies as Tigs showcases her vocal allure – the CHEW LiPS frontwoman is mesmerising of voice, her prurient laments imbued with a playful menace that could break hearts and the law at the same time. 

   “’Play Together’ sums us up as a band,” says James. “It’s got an amazing bassline and some really cool keyboard sounds, whilst ‘Slick’ could signal a change into a new direction for us – the thing I really like about it is that the music could be Beyonce or something. It was one that me and Tigs were always excited about. It came on the most out of all the songs we recorded in the studio.” 

   

   “I love ‘Karen’,” adds Tigs. “I love that little break in it.”Indeed, anyone whose accustomed to its original live version should grip themselves for the moment it morphs from straight-arrowed art-rock into its swirling, mesmeric breakdown, whilst the likes of ‘Too Much Talking’ and ‘Piano Song’ reveal tenets of raw emotion within CHEW LiPS that underline the heart pumping within their mechanical beats’n’synths.

  “I like that about our record,” opines Tigs, “the suggestion that we could go in any direction afterwards and it wouldn’t be completely surprising. Like ‘Piano Song’ – where the fuck does that come from?” As it transpires, the plaintive lullaby that closes ‘Unicorn’ comes from when James sat down at a piano left in David Kosten’s studio that Stevie Wonder used to play. “It’s not a song, there’s no structure to it, it’s just… nice,” smiles Tigs.

IamX - Volatile Times

IAMX is the illegitimate brainchild of Sneaker Pimps front man and whiz kid producer Chris Corner. His self-produced, performed and perfected debut album “Kiss + Swallow” is a moving collection of songs for unhinged and creative mind.

The content is sexual, synthetic, dark and melodic, like 80s’ electro glam soundtrack to Svankmajer film. Call it a cross between Detroit or Berlin escapades, Prince or Roxy Music’s pop, or the electronic universe of Cabaret Voltaire. Sadman - Cold in the state of me

 

   Swedish electro duo Sadman have signed to the French label Keffren Productions and will re-release both their albums 'Cold In The State Of Me' and '9th And Last Life' later this summer. The band will also record two videos and start to record a new album in the spring. They also promised to keep some time left to play live.

   Sadman first came to prominence in 2008 with their critically-acclaimed debut album "Cold in the State of Me". The duo consists of Fernström and Mattias Räftegård. The duo have since been busy working on new material.

  Check out this video for "Cold In The State Of Me" , and hope to hear more good stuff from such a great artists succeeded in offering material that can surely stand next to the bigger names in the genre.

ZIN - Tourists to this world

    Zins music consists of a mix of intensive electronic beats, melodic guitars, live drums and distinctive english vocals. Some people call their music violent-pop.

   After three years from their first album "Tourists to this world"(2007) the band is finally presenting their second LP!

The “Wave-Gotik-Treffen” in 2009 was inspiring for the band as well as for the audience, because ZIN played in front of a couple of thousand people. One year later they confidentely won the Amphi New Talents Challenge. As a result they not only brought in a respectable donation for the registered association Dunkelziffer, with the success at the Challenge they also were the band to open the Amphi Festival 2010 in Cologne.
