Lebanon Hanover - Gallowdance

  Founded in July 2010 in Sunderland, UK, Lebanon Hanover a Duo influenced by 80s Cold-Wave decided to stand up and disapprove with the high pitched overproduced music that peaks in your ears.
  Their recordings are rather minimal. A sore distorted guitar, leading post-punk basslines, and their female/male vocals are depressive and full of world weariness. Hardly suprising they call themselves «New Misanthropics.»
  After some of their tracks have been featured on compilations like „Darkness before Dawn“ “ The Almighty Wire“ „Monosynth“ and „Death Disco“ they have released their first 12“ vinyl on Fabrika Records (Greece) in February 2012.   
  Since moving to Berlin in spring 2011 Lebanon Hanover were irritated by too many humans and moved back to the seaside of North-East England and are recording and mixing on their new stuff.

Sixth June

  Sixth June is the electro pop duo of Lidija Andonov and Laslo Antal. The group formed during 2008 in  Belgrade and are currently based in Berlin. Their first official release “everytime” came out in March 2010 for the German label Genetic Music/No Emb Blanc. Since then, the band has been playing gigs in Germany, Belgium, Croatia, Serbia. The duo have also performed at B.I.M. fest in Antwerp, and Exit festival Novi Sad.

You can let your heart listen their deep influence for everything that has a synthesizer sound and found its origin in the Eighties; the duo represents perfectly the two sides of the same coin, in fact while Laslo is producing obscure but expressive, powerful and danceable textures, on the back side the voice of Lidija is living the shape to a wobbling atmosphere you won’t escape from.

SOROR DOLOROSA

  Formerly from Toulouse (southern France), SOROR DOLOROSA was originally founded in 2001, with Andy (Nuit Noire, Mutiilation, Peste Noire, Celestia, Darvulia, Fornication) on drums, Franck (ex Funeraell) on guitar, Herve (ex Funeraell) on bass, and Christophe Guenot (ex Funeraell) on vocals.

   Herve came up with the name of SOROR DOLOROSA because of a novel titled "Bruges-la-morte" by Georges Rodenbach, a Flemish symbolist writer from the late 19th century. A novel marked by symbolism of nostalgia and mourning. SOROR DOLOROSA means "Sister Pain" in Latin, one could almost translate it as "lovers of pain" in a more Baudelaire way...

   The band recorded an unpublished demo, then the line-up changed in 2003 with the arrival of Emey (ex Contrast, Unscarred ...), who replaced Franck on guitar. Subsequently they recorded a second unpublished demo and did some gigs until they split in 2005.

   In August 2007 they reformed with the present line up. A month later , based on songs written by bassist Carles Hervé, the band recorded a third unpublished demo whose content sounds definitely Gothic Rock and Death Rock, influenced by groups such as Christian Death , Bauhaus , and The Sisters of Mercy . 

   From that time, Soror Dolorosa ' s style became more personal and they found an own identity as a band. The songs were now written by the four members together, though still mostly based on the bass guitar. They took on a Cold Wave colouring, more in line with bands such as The Cure or Human League , but also with hints of 70's rock like Deep Purple or Black Sabbath and retaining the Sisters of Mercy- like Gothic Rock influence .

Soror Dolorosa made their first record appearance with "American Chronicle" in March 2008, on the free compilation

  When the third demo was out on myspace, the group was contacted to release an EP through the British label Todestrieb Records. This 6 track EP, entitled " Severance", wasn't released until August 2009 due to production delays and is being distributed through underground ways, while the band promoted it with successful live performances all over France.

Soror Dolorosa - Severance  

  Some time in 2009, through the help of Neige (Amesoeurs, Alcest), the band came in contact with Northern Silence Productions, who offered to release their upcoming albums on their newly founded sublabel Beneath Grey Skies, and subsequently produced the debut full length " Blind Scenes " , recorded in August 2010 at Drudenhaus Studio.

   To use the band's own words : " The album is quite cold, with misty blue moods. 'Blind Scenes' would rather be perceived as scenes unseen, that is to say, out of time and out of the real world. As a state of grace overshadowed by the inevitability of everyday life. The lyrics are heartfelt and talk about regrets, coldness, alcohol abuse, as well as forfeiture, but mostly nostalgia, hence the blue color of the music."

Dream Affair - Endless Days

  Dream Affair is a cold wave group based in Brooklyn, NY. Since the release of their sold-out EP ''All I Want'' last fall, the band has expanded their initial references of UK post-punk and French cold wave to incorporate sounds of Wax Trax industrial and 4AD shoegaze. 
  Comparisons have also been made with bands such as The Cure and Depeche Mode.
  Their debut full-length album perfects the cold dichotomy: the conflict and balance between bleak indifference and struggling emotions. 
  Romanticism in the vocals and guitars are vetted against the industrial chill of the rhythm section. The result is a testament of self-awareness, absurdity, and isolation.

  Dream Affair was founded by Hayden Payne (guitars, vocals), formerly of Void Vision. Starting out as a solo project, it now includes Abby Echiverri (synth, vocals) and Frank Deserto (bass). 
  Frontman Hayden Payne also played guitar for band Automelodi.

Contre Jour - One Night At The Station

  

  Contre Jour is a french band which started playing in 2009. The band includes Roxy (vocals), Christof (bass guitar), Greguy Leodocard (keyboards) and Manu (Guitar).

  Their first album called « One night at the station », which is a self-product project and was released in January 2010, combining many influences from the 80′s and the 90′s, offers a punchy sound between Post-punk and New wave.

The Frozen Autumn - Chirality (2011) & Discography

  

  The Frozen Autumn is an Italian darkwave band, formed in May 1993, characterized by a blend of melancholic vocals, atmospheric gothic-wave and 1980s-style electropop.

  The Frozen Autumn started life as the solo project of Diego Merletto, founded after several years of involvement with various darkwave groups in Turin. The singer, keyboardist and synth programmer employed the talents of guitarist Claudio Brosio during early studio sessions and live performances, then in 1995 the first album, Pale Awakening, was released under the German Weisser Herbst Produktion label. The album was well-received by gothic-wave/dark-romantic fans across Europe, and in 1997 the follow-up was released, Fragments of Memories, this time by Milan-based Eibon records.

   In 1998 Merletto co-founded a side-project called Static Movement with Arianna, who provided guest vocals on the title-track from Fragments of Memories. The duo composed together for six months and in March 1999 the album Visionary Landscapes was released. The musical style of Static Movement was not dissimilar to The Frozen Autumn, however with only electronic instruments being used, the result was a more synthetic coldwave sound. The partnership proved fruitful for both parties and so Arianna became a permanent fixture in The Frozen Autumn line-up, Static Movement remaining their "concept research project".

 

  After 18 months working on The Frozen Autumn's third album, Emotional Screening Device was released in April 2002 and hailed as the group's best album to date. They decided to leave Eibon Records in 2003 and, while contemplating offers coming in from both Italian and foreign labels, spent over two years on the next album. Is Anybody There? was finally released in September 2005 by the Argentinean label Twilight Records and German label Pandaimonium through Xymox Control.

  Merletto has since been working on his video art which has in recent years become an integral part of the band's live shows, while in addition to playing concerts all over Europe and collaborating with various artists, the duo have (as of October 2006) begun the process of reprinting The Frozen Autumn's back catalogue. In 2009, "Pale Awakening", "Fragments of Memories" and "Visionary Landscapes" were re-printed through Twilight Records. At the same, The Frozen Autumn announced that Ashes is no longer their official fan club. In September 2009, a new official forum was created.
 

   In December 2009, The Frozen Autumn published in their Facebook a "Manifesto against music killers", stating their position on music sharing over the Internet. In the same article they pointed out that they were exploited by someone who they thought as a good friend.

   In October 2010, four new songs from a new single: "Rallentears" will be performed live. The song is on their new label, Calembour Records, as a forerunner of their next album, called Chirality is released in November 2011.

  Xeno and Oaklander is a minimal wave/synth duo from Brooklyn, New York, comprising Sean McBride and Miss Liz Wendelbo. They began writing music in 2004 and they record their songs live in their studio and play analogue synthesizers and instruments exclusively.

  The new video for “The Staircase,” by the synth pop group Xeno & Oaklander, epitomizes the cool aesthetic of the underground minimal electronics movement. 

   The video has the quality of a Xerox, reproduced over and over, blown out and dark, and induces a sense of something lost. 

  Taryn Waldman of Boxmotion, who directed the “The Staircase,” and Patrick Stroub, its cinematographer, make references to Roman Polanski’s film “Repulsion,” as a slip of a woman, Xeno (Wendelbo), climbs the stairs of a claustrophobic 19th-century Brooklyn tenement building, seemingly unaware that the object of her affection and of her voyeurism, Oaklander (McBride), is right next to her.

Blacklist - Midnight Of The Century

  Blacklist is a band from Brooklyn, New York composed of Josh Strawn (vocals, guitar), Ryan Rayhill (bass), Glenn Maryansky (drums), and James Minor (guitar).

  They are one of the flagship bands of painter Pieter Schoolwerth's Wierd Records imprint. The band creates atmospheric modern rock music that has been described as "anthemic,", "darkly erotic, strangely sensual", and "brings a much-needed anomaly in NYC's music scene." 

  They are sometimes classified as part of the post punk revival, though the sound is generally more dense, sonically incorporating elements of shoegaze with coldwave. 

   Blacklist's first EP was self-released and is currently out of print.

  The Solidaire EP was then released including a cover of seminal French coldwave band Asylum Party's song "Pure Joy In My Heart." 

  The band's debut LP, Midnight of the Century, was released digitally on May 26, 2009 and on CD on July 28, 2009.It was mixed by Ed Buller and mastered by Howie Weinberg. 

  The album title is a reference to the revolutionary Victor Serge's book, Midnight In the Century.

  The lyrics to Blacklist songs often contain references to various authors, philosophers, and historical events.

Automelodi - "Automelodi" [2010]

  Automelodi is the main musical project of Canadian songwriter/producer Xavier Paradis formerly known as Arnaud Lazlaud and later as Echo-Kitty, playing since the mid 90’s in the purest Neue Deutsche Welle and Fad Gadget styles.

They released their debut album “Automelodi” in August 2010.

   Automelodi combines guitars with synthesizers and drum machines to create a truly idiosyncratic, cerebrally sophisticated, and elegantly composed album of modern minimal electronic music!

   Highly unique for a North American band in 2010, Automelodi proudly embraces the infinitely rich ground of French pop musical influences - including the legendary ‘Chanteurs’ of the ‘60s and ‘70s, classic French cold wave(aka ‘La Vague Froide’) and minimal synth, and early UK new wave.

   The album carefully weaves together a series of hook-laden uptempo pop trax with with a set of stylishly confident, yet vulnerably melancholic downtempo songs that allow the listener to catch his misty breath in the mix, with nearly all vocals smoothly delivered in French. 

  As is often the case within French literature, poetry, and pop musical history the freely associative, intuitive and often dreamlike play of language and the voice is of prime importance to the band. And indeed for the English-speaking listener in particular, the vocals function as an additional flowing and soaring instrument in the mix as well as a mysteriously mediating force that provocatively obscure the lyrical narratives at work, while carefully playing off of both the icily detached guitars and the warmly, organic electronics. An amazing balancing act it is, and negotiating this plethora of conflicting forces within the record is quite an exciting sonic event to experience...welcome to the world of Automelodi...

Flying Turns - As Good As

   French Cold New wave band Flying Turns from Paris, with beautiful deep dark voice and energetic post punk guitar riffs made such a great videos that make me excited to find a real high-quality band that reminds a lot to Joy Division, the first album of Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Devo and so on..

   One of the band members is Gesaffelstein, a french producer of techno/electro music.

  Their first single was called as good as, listen to this promising and talented trio. Enjoy!!

  Amazing track 'Repeat' It is taken from BRAHMS electronic trio from NY,self released debut 7"

  BRAHMS turn things upside down on us in the video for ‘Repeat it’. Apparently, the band shot this visual in Tokyo, using nothing but their iPhones and some surveillance cameras.The city shots also make an appropriately angular background for “Repeat It”‘s clean lines. The video was edited by Adam Bennett. 

  That feeling of removal and disconnection in the footage works well with the track, which, like other BRAHMS songs, keeps some emotional distance between the vocals, the instruments, and the listener.

  This one will get your heart racing. The dark, intense, flickering, digital vibe is the perfect complement for these New Wave revivalist’s sound on this cut ,like it's straight out of a 1980s new wave club.
